What is Accra Zoo?
Accra Zoo sits inside the Achimota Forest Reserve, which has housed the relocated zoo since 2008. It is a protected nature area with pathways connecting forested enclosures where lions, antelope, ostriches and monkeys live, and it serves as a major environmental education centre for school groups and weekend families.
Tickets are bought at a small Forestry Commission office before entering the forest, and a guide leads the tour — the guide fee is included in the ticket, with a voluntary tip at the end. Foreign visitors pay more than Ghanaians, at about GH₵ 60 for adults and GH₵ 30 for children. The zoo is open from 9am to 4pm.
