Ghana's richest rainforest ecosystem, with five walking trails, the Bamboo Cathedral, waterfalls, birding, butterfly and mammal tours and guided hikes.
What is Ankasa Conservation Area?
Ankasa Conservation Area protects the wettest and most biodiverse forest in Ghana, in the far west near the CΓ΄te d'Ivoire border. It combines the Ankasa Game Production Reserve and the Nini-Suhien National Park, and has five well-defined walking routes through rainforest, birding, butterfly and mammal tours, river fishing and the Bamboo Cathedral, a natural dome of bamboo about 8 km inside the reserve.
It is a genuine rainforest experience rather than a theme park. The trails are muddy and humid, and the wildlife is shy, so it suits families with older children who can walk quietly. Guides are essential and can be arranged at the reserve entrance.
Ankasa protects Ghana's wettest rainforest and a high diversity of birds, butterflies and mammals.
