What is Entebbe Botanical Gardens?

The Entebbe Botanical Gardens cover about 40 hectares on the shore of Lake Victoria, a few minutes from Entebbe town and the international airport. They were laid out in 1898 and hold mature trees, palms, a coastal forest patch and a stretch of shoreline where fishermen work the lake.

The gardens are best known for their wildlife rather than their labelling: black-and-white colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys, monitor lizards and over 100 bird species live in the trees, and the lakeshore path brings kingfishers, egrets and weavers close. It is a flat, shady place for a picnic and a gentle introduction to Uganda's wildlife before or after a flight.

The gardens conserve a remnant of Lake Victoria coastal forest and are used for research and environmental education.
