What is Hyrax Hill Museum?
Hyrax Hill is a prehistoric archaeological site and museum run by National Museums of Kenya, on a hill about 4 km from Nakuru town and around 500 m from Lake Nakuru. It was proclaimed a national monument in 1945 and opened to the public in 1965. Excavations here uncovered ancient burial sites and evidence of early pastoral communities, and the museum sits in an old farmhouse from about 1900 to 1910.
Visitors can tour the exhibits, walk the nature trail up the hill with views over Lake Nakuru and Menengai Crater, and picnic in the grounds. A guide can be arranged at the museum for a small fee.
