What is Kasubi Tombs?
The Kasubi Tombs sit on Kasubi Hill about 5 km from central Kampala and are the royal burial grounds of four Buganda kings. The site is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most important cultural places in Uganda, with large thatched domed shrines built from wood, reed and daub, set in a broad courtyard.
A guided tour explains Buganda royal history, the regalia kept inside the shrines and the role of the site in contemporary Buganda life. The main shrine was damaged by fire in 2010 and has been under reconstruction, so check what is open before visiting.
The tombs are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the spiritual centre of the Buganda kingdom.
