What is Kit Mikayi?

Kit Mikayi, meaning 'Stone of the First Wife', is a tor of huge stacked granite boulders in Kangeso village, Seme, about 29 to 30 km west of Kisumu and about 1 km off the Kisumu–Bondo road. In Luo tradition the largest central rock is the first wife, with smaller rocks for the other wives and eldest son, and the Luo regard it as a sacred place where villagers pray in hard times.

A community guide leads a short climb through rocky paths past caves and crevices to viewpoints over the Seme landscape, and explains the legends. A guide is strongly recommended, and most visitors tip the guide at the end.
